SunGard Higher Education Launches Spanish Version of its PowerCAMPUS Administrative System

Open Digital Campus Strategy Provides Latin American and Caribbean Universities With More Technology Choice

MEXICO CITY, June 1, 2010  — SunGard Higher Education announced the availability of a new Spanish language version of its PowerCAMPUS Digital Campus administrative system for higher education institutions in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Through the introduction of the PowerCAMPUS administrative suite, more Spanish-speaking institutions will have access to a solution designed to help them address demands for expanded and improved services, mobility and globalization.

Built on Microsoft SQL technology, PowerCAMPUS is a comprehensive administrative system that helps small and mid-sized institutions with admissions, academic records, advancement, billing and cash receipts, financial aid, finance, human resources and portal needs.  The PowerCAMPUS Self-Service applications and portal help make it easier and more convenient for students and faculty to communicate, collaborate and perform personalized administrative functions such as enter/view grades, take attendance and make payments.

“Introducing a Spanish version of our PowerCAMPUS solution to the Latin America and Caribbean region reinforces our Open Digital Campus vision, bringing more technology options to higher education”, said Renee Pacini, vice president of strategy and product management, Student Services at SunGard Higher Education.  “Creating this Spanish version will help make it possible for more institutions to take major leaps in technology that will, in turn, help provide better education experiences for students, faculty and staff.

The Spanish PowerCAMPUS version brings a proven academic solution to the Latin America region at an important time.  According to IESALC (Higher Education Institute for Latin America and the Caribbean), a UNESCO organization, the number of students enrolled in higher education in the region increased by more than 10 million between 1980 and 2005.  The number of higher education institutions also increased to serve student demand, with more than 1,500 created since 1985.  Competition among institutions is increasing locally as well as globally.

“PowerCAMPUS will help Latin American and Caribbean universities meet student and faculty demands for higher quality services and improve communication within their community rather than struggling with basic office processes,” said Juan Albelo, vice president for Latin America and the Caribbean for SunGard Higher Education.  “PowerCAMPUS will help an institution’s staff focus more attention on serving its students.  SunGard is committed to helping higher education institutions, in Latin America and around the world, achieve their educational goals and improve institutional performance.”

Higher education leaders throughout Latin America are invited to join SunGard Higher Education for a launch event on June 1st from 9:00-11:00am CT at the Hotel Marriott Reforma in Mexico City.  The event will also be online.  For event details, please contact infolac@sungardhe.com.
